Christian Medical College & Hospital, located in Ludhiana, Punjab India, is a not-for profit, charitable, medical institute that integrates clinical and hospital care with education and research. Christian Medical College was founded in 1894, 113 years ago by Dame Edith Brown, to provide outstanding patient care based upon the principles of compassion and innovation especially for the marginalized. Today, Christian Medical College has become one of the largest and most respected hospitals in the country. We are one of India’s best 15 hospitals and medical school (India Today Survey, 2007)
Christian Medical College & Hospital has today evolved into a 741 bed tertiary care medical/ surgical facility and healthcare complex specializing in gastrointestinal work, cardiology and cardiovascular care, neuroscience, oncology services, orthopedics, mother and child services, dermatology, mental health, clinical laboratories, radiological, emergency and trauma services.
The institution was set up to treat patient from all communities, but the stress has always been to respond to the needs of the underprivileged and marginalized. The hospital aims to provide advanced and modern technology to those who cannot afford the high cost of medical care.
The Christian Medical College & Hospital plays an important role in the communities of Punjab and the surrounding states, providing uncompensated health care to the poor and needy, engaging in a broad range of programs which provides various public health initiatives and services. These activities incorporate our institution’s mission and core values. The hospital has evolved various programs, including RHOP (Rural Health Outreach Program), Mobile Eye Services Program (MESP), Mobile Dental Outreach Services, Outreach OPD camps and an Outreach Base Hospital. The community benefits provided range from providing free health care for the neediest, bringing patients to the hospital for advanced treatment, subsiding cost of treatment o the poor, to training and education of health care professionals.
Christian Medical College & Hospital has an integrated campus which encompasses the medical, Dental, Nursing and the Physiotherapy School. The campus is located in the heart of Ludhiana city that provides a highly livable environment for more than 4000 Christian Medical College and Hospitals staff and students. There are separate hostel facilities for boys and girls students in the campus. There are excellent facilities for extracurricular activities including music, drama, sports and exercises.
The first ‘Christian’ Dental College in India, established in year 1992 today is considered to be one of the best in the country. It incorporates both undergraduate and postgraduate training courses.
The school of Nursing offers a variety of diploma and degree (including postgraduate) courses affiliated to Punjab Nurses Registration Council and Punjab University and are recognized by Indian Nursing Council.
